The Port of Galveston on Sunday welcomed the 10 millionth passenger to embark since the Texas port began cruise operations in 2000.

Yingtao Liu, who drove from Norman, Oklahoma, with his parents, wife and three children were greeted at check-in by Port of Galveston CEO Rodger Rees, Carnival Vista hotel director Pavol Drimaj and other representatives from Carnival Cruise Line.

First cruise

It was surely a memorable start to the Liu family's first cruise.

Galveston Convention and Visitors' Bureau and Island Bay Resort presented several gifts to the family, including a three-night stay at Island Bay Resort, a basket of treats from the port, a specially designed gift bag of Galveston swag from the CVB and a beach bag of vacation essentials from Carnival.

The cruise line also extended some on-board courtesies and VIP treatment during the seven-night voyage.

'It's a very proud milestone to reach after 18 years of cultivating the cruise business in the state of Texas,' Rees said. He thanked the port staff for their hard work and support in achieving this milestone.
