Grand Bahama Shipyard bolsters leadership with new executive posts

Grand Bahama Shipyard has bulked up its management team with four newly created positions and recently completed a number of capital improvements.

The investments entail upgrading and purchasing machinery and tooling, and expanding wet berth capabilities to relieve pressure on drydock utilization and move vessels out of drydock and into service faster.

Ian Edward Ross joined in July as vp health, safety, security, environment and quality. He has more than 25 years of experience delivering strategic and operational support to major organizations in the oil and gas, power generation and heavy construction and fabrication industries. Ross has held several senior international HSSEQ executive roles in the UK, Europe, North Africa, Middle East, China, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

He is a lead auditor for ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 management systems.

Don Kierce was promoted to vp operations, and leads day-to-day production activities. He joined Grand Bahama Shipyard in 2010 as production manager. Earlier, this 28-year marine industry veteran was a consultant for project solution/ship construction and managed the building of three oil tanker power modules.

Kierce's background includes a decade at Tampa Bay Shipbuilding and Repair.

Chuck Nugent was appointed vp special projects, responsible for developing and executing facility expansion and improvements. He has served as a senior management team member since July 2015.

Before, Nugent held middle and senior level management positions at Atlantic Marine, BAE Systems Florida and Alabama Shipyards. He has 43 years of experience in ship repair and conversion, newbuilding project management, estimating, contract management, operations and engineering management.

Adrian Baboi was named senior technical consultant - cruise. He has played key roles in long-term projects at Grand Bahama Shipyard since 2002. Boboi's nearly 20 years of experience includes positions as technical director, marine operations manager and senior naval architect for companies worldwide.

He has dealt extensively with all classification societies and many statutory regulatory authorities throughout his career.

In other news, Grand Bahama Shipyard launched a new website at www.grandbahamashipyard.com to provide a more comprehensive view of the services the Freeport facility offers, along with technical information for shipowners and operators and superintendents prior to drydock.
