Grand Bahama Shipyard, the Caribbean's most important cruise and general ship repair facility, sustained minor damage from Hurricane Matthew and is open for business. Three vessels were scheduled to arrive for work Friday.

Damage was mainly to buildings and general property. Due to the coordinated efforts of employees, the shipyard is clear and ready to safely accept vessels, according to Graham Couser, vp sales and marketing.

Hurricane Matthew passed over Grand Bahama Island with 120 mph winds on Oct. 6, causing disruption and significant damage to the island’s infrastructure and the community in general.

The yard, supported by its partners, will 'energetically assist' community efforts to restore affected areas by supporting food banks and lending expertise to repair projects.
