Passengers from Crystal Symphony and The World had front row seats for Sydney's New Year's Eve fireworks
Crystal Cruises’ 940-passenger Crystal Symphony arrived in Sydney on New Year’s Eve for a two-night stopover that included a grandstand view of the city’s famous fireworks.

The company chartered two catamarans to ferry passengers from where the 51,044gt ship berthed at White Bay Cruise Terminal to the ‘Harbour of Light Parade’ of illuminated vessels that sailed around Sydney Harbour.

At midnight the word ‘Sydney’ exploded into the sky above the famed ‘coathanger’ arch of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and for 12 mesmerising minutes the City of Sydney put on a dazzling display—120,000 fireworks were set off from barges around the harbour, 20,000 fireworks were launched from the Sydney Harbour Bridge and 800 pyrotechnic effects exploded above the Sydney Opera House.

More than 1.5m spectators along the Sydney Harbour foreshore were among the first in the world to ring in 2017 and the celebrations were viewed by an estimated global audience of 1bn.

The 2016/17 Sydney Harbour fireworks also marked the 20th anniversary since they were first televised.

Passengers aboard The World Residences at Sea, which arrived in Sydney on December 30 for a four-night stay, were also ferried from No. 4 White Bay to Sydney Harbour for front row seats of the spectacular fireworks.
