China’s east coastal province Guangdong is planning to forge Guangzhou into a cruise tourism development experimental zone.

According to updates from the Guangdong provincial culture and tourism meeting, Guangdong will strengthen its promotion of culture and tourism, and support its major city, Guangzhou, to develop its cruise economy. The plan also includes cooperation with other cruise ports to jointly develop and explore cruise-related products and services.

Currently, China has six cruise tourism development experimental zones: Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenzhen, Qingdao, Fuzhou and Dalian.

Earlier, China’s Central Committee of the Communist Party and the State Council jointly issued plans for the development of the Hong Kong-Macao-Guangdong Great Bay area, aiming to create a leading international innovation and technology hub and a powerful, world-class city cluster.

The plan stated that the Great Bay area will promote international cruise port construction of Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, to add more international cruises and simplify the entry and exit procedures for cruise passengers.
