Haimark speakers range from Dan Rather to maritime historians
Embarking on its maiden voyage May 30 from Montréal, Quebec, to Portland, Maine, Haimark Line's Saint Laurent will feature an ongoing rotating roster of expert lecturers. They'll share their knowledge related to the ship’s four different nine- and 12-night itineraries throughout its summer program in North America.

Beginning with award-winning journalist Dan Rather as the special guest aboard the inaugural sailing, these experts will join select cruises that visit America’s Great Lakes, New England colonies and French Canadian maritime provinces.

Topics of talks in the ship’s Compass Lounge include the diverse history of Victorian towns rich with seafaring history, archaeological investigations of shipwrecks and insights into local cultures and remote islands with spectacular wildlife.

Dan Rather, former 'CBS News' anchor and '60 Minutes' correspondent, is to discuss 'Fact vs. Fiction in Journalism: Misinformation & the Internet' and appear for 'An Evening with Dan Rather.'

The inaugural Saint Laurent cruise visits destinations including Québec City, Gaspé Peninsula, Prince Edward Island, the reversing rapids of the Bay of Fundy near New Brunswick's Saint John and Acadia National Park.

Dr. Bill Cogar, author and former US Naval Academy professor, is scheduled to speak about naval and maritime history during the May 30 Montréal to Portland cruise and the Aug. 28 Chicago to Montréal sailing.

Dr. John Odin Jensen, historian, archaeologist and policy professor who has participated in more than 50 underwater archaeological investigations of shipwrecks in the Great Lakes, will join the Aug. 1 Chicago to Toronto cruise and the Aug. 10 Toronto to Chicago sailing.

Dr. James Robertson, author, expert in Civil War history and a lecturer of national acclaim, will speak aboard the Oct. 30 Portland to Nassau, Bahamas, cruise.

Frederick Stonehouse, author of more than 30 books on maritime history and an 'on-air' expert for National Geographic and the History Channel, is booked for the July 4 Chicago to Montréal cruise and the Aug. 1 Montréal to Chicago sailing.

Bob Tagatz, resident historian and concierge at the Grand Hotel on Michigan’s Mackinac Island, has more than 29 years of experience in historical preservation. He assembled the Grand Hotel’s first archives and published a book and DVD on the hotel’s history. Tagatz will join the July 5 Montréal to Chicago cruise and the July 14 Chicago to Montréal sailing.

Jay White, a Halifax, Nova Scotia-based historian and a former teacher of military history for the Royal Military College of Canada, will speak aboard the June 8 Portland to Montréal and Oct. 21 Montréal to Portland cruises.
