The arrival of Holland America Line's Nieuw Amsterdam on Friday opened the Port of Seattle's 2016 cruise season. Larger vessels and more departures will make this Seattle's largest cruise season with nearly 1m revenue passengers.

The port estimates each homeported cruise ship brings in $2.6m for the local economy.

Seattle’s cruise business—currently leading all homeports on the West Coast in passenger volume—is responsible for over 3,700 jobs, $459, in annual business revenue and $17.6m annually in state and local tax revenue.
