Hurtigruten has summer savings in adventure-packed Greenland

Hurtigruten has summer savings in adventure-packed Greenland
Hurtigruten is offering savings on select Greenland cruises aboard Fram that are stocked with an expert expedition team and enrichment lecturers.

The expedition team introduces travelers to the history and heritage of the early settlers during the 'Glaciers & Ice' program and leads photography workshops on the more remote 'Arctic Wilderness Adventure.' Headlining the 'Climate & Ice' sailing is one of the world’s leading climate change experts, Dr. Jason Box, who will lead small groups collecting scientific data along Greenland’s coast.

Travelers can save up to 38% with Hurtigruten’s Unspecified Cabin Guarantee, available when booking inside, outside or suite cabin categories. Or, those who reserve an inside cabin can get a free upgrade to an outside cabin. And if air is booked through Hurtigruten, customers receive a $250 per person air credit.

Hopes, hardships and heritage of the Inuit culture headline the 'Glaciers & Ice' excursions. Two departures, June 2 and July 3, open a route that begins in Reykjavik, Iceland, and continues along Greenland’s culturally and scenically diverse southern shores.

From there, Fram hugs the northwest coastline of fjords, hot springs and stunning lava and rock formations, and passes densely populated clusters of avian sanctuaries. During this 12-day journey, passengers have the opportunity to dog-sledge along old Norse trading routes, hike among religious ruins and kayak in the playgrounds of seals, salmon, trout and minke whales.

Weather permitting, these activities and others are scheduled as part of daily landings that include Inuit towns and villages like Qassiarsuk (population: 56), known for the settlement of the Viking Erik Raude.

Special fares for these dates are $5,982 per person, double occupancy, for cabins and $9,018 for suites.

Beginning June 23, the 12-day 'Greenland: Climate and Ice' program departs Reykjavik and features the opportunity to accompany Jason Box in small groups for data-collecting expeditions to a working Greenland ice sheet weather station. Back on board Fram, Box will explain climate change, analyze results of the group’s data collection and lecture on topics like 'Nature’s Thermometer.' Plus, he will show films including a presentation on American artist Rockwell Kent, who fell in love with Greenland.

New ports have been added, including Qasigiannguit, Illorsuit and Qullissat. Early booking rates start at $6,550, a savings of more than $4,000 per person off regular fares.

The 'Arctic Wilderness Adventure' is a 12-day voyage departing June 13 that explores the Disko Bay area along Greenland’s northwest coast. Photography workshops will give tips and insight from experts. Passengers may experience Arctic landings in polarcirkel boats, dog-sledging, the thunder of breaking icebergs and hiking and kayaking lit up by the ever-present Midnight Sun. Along the way, passengers can stop at Inuit communities like Upernavik, a rarely-visited settlement at the edge of civilization.

Reduced pricing begins at $7,195.
