Igoumenitsa unveils new cruise infrastructure

Igoumenitsa unveils new cruise infrastructure
Igoumenitsa has completed the extension of the port's entrance channel which will soon be put into operation. The new channel has a 90mtr width, 10.5mtr depth and 1,800mtr length, which allows even larger cruise vessels to maneuver safely in the port.

The adjacent existing channel will then undergo supplementary dredging to increase the depth to 10.5mtr from the current 8.2mtr enabling the Port Authority to have the final 170mtr wide channel fully operational as soon as possible.

In other port infrastructure developments, a new 3,000 sq mtr Passenger Terminal dedicated for cruise passengers is also completed. Representatives from the Igoumenitsa Port Authority will be attending Seatrade Med in Barcelona next week to discuss these new developments with cruise line executives and suppliers.

MedCruise member Igoumenitsa offers a variety of shorex including access to the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Monasteries of Meteora, the medieval lake citadel city of Ioannina, the alpine region of Epirus, the ancient site of Dodoni, the traditional market town of Metsovo, the turquoise Ionian coastline, the site of Octavian’s city of Nicopolis and the oracle at the gates of Hades.
