Strong pre-sales for first newbuild, Spirit of Discovery, drove the decision to order Spirit of Adventure
Saga Cruises firmed the option for a second 58,250gt newbuild at Meyer Werft. Spirit of Adventure is due for delivery in 2020, joining sister ship Spirit of Discovery, to debut in summer 2019.

The ship will stretch approximately 236 meters in length and 31.2 meters at the beam.

Like Spirit of Discovery, Spirit of Adventure will carry fewer than 1,000 passengers, and offer all-balcony accommodations.

'Our first new ship, Spirit of Discovery, will be in service in June 2019 and with pre-sales being very strong, this confidence in demand has supported our decision to expand the newbuild fleet and purchase our second new ship, to be delivered in August 2020,' said Lance Batchelor, CEO of Saga plc.

Almost 7,000 passengers who had pre-registered to sail on Spirit of Discovery have already gone on to book, added Robin Shaw, CEO of Saga Cruises. 'This is a phenomenal conversion of over 80%,' he said.

Bernard Meyer, managing partner of Meyer Werft, called it an honor to continue to work with Saga Cruises: 'Their decision to build now two vessels with us makes us very proud.'
