Torstein Hagen - third ship an important milestone
The newly delivered Viking Sky is scheduled to sail its maiden voyage from Civitavecchia (Rome) on Feb. 25 and will be named June 22 under the Midnight Sun in Tromsø, Norway, as hinted by Viking Cruises chairman Torstein Hagen a few months back.

That would put the event in this city 350 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle one day before the Midsummer Eve celebration, a particularly festive time in Norway.

First, Viking Sky will be sailing throughout the eastern and western Mediterranean, then reposition to Scandinavia and the Baltic. In September the ship is scheduled to cross the Atlantic en route to the Americas and the Caribbean. Among its itineraries there are round-trips from PortMiami to the western Caribbean, Panama and Central America.

'In the past two years, we have been encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive response our first two ocean ships have generated among our guests and travel industry partners. Today we mark an important milestone in welcoming the third ship to our fleet,' Hagen said.

By the end of 2017—Viking's 20th year in business—it will also add a fourth ocean-going newbuild, doubling its blue-water fleet in less than a year.
