Landry & Kling, NAHA plan fifth Rock Festival Cruise for a Cause

Landry & Kling and the Native American Heritage Association (NAHA) announced Rock Legends Cruise V, the fifth Rock Festival Cruise for a Cause. It will sail Jan. 19-23, 2017, from Fort Lauderdale, and benefit Native Americans in need living on South Dakota reservations.

On the heels of the sold-out 2016 Rock Legends Cruise IV, the organizers expect more than 4,000 rock fans for Rock Legends Cruise V. A fan base for the cruise has built over the years.

NAHA president Pam Myers said the fourth installment sold out almost five months prior to the 2016 sailing date, and two-thirds of the passengers are repeaters.

South Dakota is home to the United States' poorest Indian reservations. Life expectancy is 58, the lowest in the country, and the infant mortality rate is 10 times the national average. Unemployment is over 80%, while the per capita income is $4,500. Many families live without electricity or indoor plumbing.

NAHA, a nonprofit foundation, was established by Pam Myers' late father David after a visit to South Dakota reservations in 1993. Moved by their desperate plight, he made it his mission to provide basic life necessities and assistance to those in need.

NAHA provides food, clothing, school supplies, heating assistance and self-help programs to struggling families. Last year, NAHA's three tractor trailers delivered 3.4m pounds of food and 181,936 pounds of clothing to the reservations, as documented in an official video at naha-inc.org.

In addition to raising awareness of the plight of South Dakota's Native Americans, the Rock Legends Cruise raises money through the $250 tax-deductible donation included in each cruise fare, artist memorabilia auctions and additional on-board donations.

Rock Legends Cruise V will sail from Fort Lauderdale to Cozumel. Registration is available online, with special incentives for booking and paying in full by Oct. 30, 2015.

Though bands have not been announced, NAHA offers a money back guarantee. Anyone dissatisfied with the lineup by March 4, 2016, can cancel and receive a full refund, minus $50 processing fee.

Artists booked for the 2016 voyage aboard Royal Caribbean International's Independence of the Seas include Peter Frampton, Gregg Allman, Grand Funk Railroad, The Marshall Tucker Band, Uriah Heep, America, Foghat and Rik Emmett, among others.

Artist lineups from prior cruises and bookings are at rocklegendscruise.com.

Miami-based Landry & King are specialists in ship charters, incentive cruises, meetings at sea and theme cruises.
