Larger NCL ship for South America in 2019/20

Norwegian Star will sail between Chile's San Antonio (for Santiago) and Buenos Aires, Argentina
A larger Norwegian Cruise Line ship, Norwegian Star, will replace Norwegian Sun in South America for the 2019/20 austral summer season, late December 2019 through early March 2020.

The 91,740gt Norwegian Star has double-occupancy capacity for 2,348 passengers, compared to the 78,309gt Norwegian Sun's 1,936 lower berths. Both ships entered service in 2001.

Norwegian Star will sail 14-day cruises between Santiago and Buenos Aires, using use Chile's San Antonio (Puerto Central), instead of Valparaíso.

Ports include Puerto Montt, Puerto Chacabuco and Punta Arenas, Chile; Stanley, Falkland Islands; Montevideo, Uruguay; and Puerto Madryn and Ushuaia, Argentina. Norwegian Star will navigate the Patagonic Channels, Chilean Fjords, the Strait of Magellan, Beagle Channel and Canal Moraleda, and round Cape Horn.

The eastbound cruises from Santiago sail Dec. 21, Jan. 18 and Feb. 15, while the westbound cruises depart from Buenos Aires on Jan. 4, Feb. 1 and Feb. 29.
