Le Boréal passengers repatriated; vessel being assessed for repairs
Passengers evacuated from Le Boréal last Wednesday following an engine room fire which left the luxury ship without any propulsion were repatriated this weekend from the Falkland Islands capital Port Stanley on flights chartered by Ponant.

Le Boréal is now berthed in the small East Cove military port, south of Port Stanley, where Ponant's technical services are assessing the necessary repairs. Ponant says repairs to the vessel will likely be carried out in a nearby port with the appropriate facilities such as Punta Arenas, Valparaiso, or Montevideo.

Sister vessel L’Austral has resumed her Antarctic cruise having picked up 247 passengers from Le Boréal’s tenders and 66 crew members from two inflatable rescue craft who proceeded to spend the night of November 18 onboard the ship before being taken to Port Stanley. Another 12 passengers were airlifted by helicopter to the British military base in Mount Pleasant.

264-passenger capacity Le Boréal left Ushuaia Sunday November 15 on a 16-day cruise to Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula.
