Sven-Olof Lindblad - shipyard prices better than originally projected
Lindblad Expedition Holdings is 'deep in the review process' of planning for a third blue-water vessel, which would be delivered in 2019, Sven-Olof Lindblad said Monday.

Shipyard prices are looking 'more attractive' now, Lindblad said, than when the company disclosed plans for such a newbuild during its 2015 investor presentations.

Then, Lindblad Expeditions indicated it was looking at a ship priced at $130m to $135m that would carry approximately 170 passengers.

Lindblad gave no further details on the newbuild during the company's second quarter earnings call.

A blue-water newbuild would follow the pair of 100-passenger, US-flag coastal ships Lindblad is buildng at Nichols Brothers Boat Builders near Seattle. The first of those, National Geographic Quest, is on schedule for delivery in second quarter 2017 with the second coastal ship to come in Q2 2018.

Currently Lindblad owns two blue-water ships, National Geographic Explorer and National Geographic Orion. It also owns or charters coastal vessels.
