The 35-day adventure will take place aboard Lindblad's first polar-class newbuild, National Geographic Endurance. With a high PC 5 rating, the ship will be able to operate year-round in medium first-year ice, which may have old ice inclusions.
World's largest ice shelf
Highlights include the big ice of remote West Antarctica; the massive white wall that marks the edge of the Ross Ice Shelf, the world’s largest; and the seldom-visited sub-Antarctic islands of New Zealand and Australia, UNESCO World Heritage sites that are havens for wildlife.
Travelers will be able to trek by kayak, Zodiac or on foot to see royal penguins, gentoo and southern rockhopper penguins, the world’s largest colony of Adélie penguins and 100,000 pairs of king penguins on a single beach.
The trip will carry an expedition leader, a team of veteran naturalists, a National Geographic photographer, a Lindblad-National Geographic-certified photo instructor, an undersea specialist and a wellness specialist.
Departures in December 2020 and January 2021
Two 'Epic Antarctica' departures are scheduled: Dec. 27, 2020, and Jan. 26, 2021. Rates begin at $48,800 per person, double occupancy, in a Category 1 cabin.
The 126-passenger National Geographic is under construction at Ulstein Verft for delivery in 2020.
