Azamara Club Cruises staged its first 'AzAmazing Evening' in the UK Thursday with a concert marking the 50th anniversary of the Beatles finding fame in the US.

And the group's home city of Liverpool scooped the accolade to stage the gala event for passengers on board Azamara Journey during a 12-night UK and Ireland voyage.

One of the famous west coast UK port city's most spectacular buildings, Liverpool Cathedral, was selected as the venue for the 'AzAmazing Evening.'

The place of worship is Britain's largest cathedral.

Azamara Journey's 600 passengers were joined by civic dignitaries and other guests for the concert which also featured a selection of classical pieces played on the cathedral organ, together with soprano and tenor soloists and a string quartet.

Azamara managing director UK & Ireland Richard Twynam said the concert perfectly matched the line's immersive experience concept: 'We are thrilled to be staging this evening in the wonderful city of Liverpool and to give our guests the opportunity to visit one of the city's finest buildings to participate in a very special event.'

Azamara has committed to a second 'AzAmazing Evening' in Liverpool next year.

The inaugural event extends the cathedral's association with the cruise industry.

Last year CLIA UK and Ireland guests attended a gala dinner there on the eve of the annual Columbus Day sales and marketing conference. Earlier this week, Cunard Line announced the venue will host two concerts that will form part of the line's 175th anniversary celebration in Liverpool next year.
