Long-serving Royal Caribbean director is leaving the board

Bernt Reitan, who has served as a director of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. since 2004, plans to retire from the board effective from the 2019 annnual shareholders meeting.

He currently chairs the compensation committee.

Retired Alcoa executive

Reitan is a former longtime Alcoa executive. Before retiring in 2010, he was EVP of Alcoa Inc. and group president for the Global Primary Products division, responsible for managing alumina refineries and primary aluminum smelters worldwide, along with associated businesses such as metal purchasing, trading and transportation.

RCL's current 13-member board is led by chairman and CEO Richard Fain. Other directors are Stephen R. Howe Jr., the newest, who joined the board in December after retiring from Ernst & Young; John Brock, formerly with Coca-Cola; William Kimsey, another Ernst & Young veteran; Maritza Montiel, previously with Deloitte; Ann Moore, formerly with Time Inc.; and Eyal Ofer of Ofer Global, Zodiac Group and Global Holdings.

Further directors are Thomas Pritzker of Hyatt Hotels and The Pritzker Organization; William Reilly of Aqua International Partners and a former US Environmental Protection Agency administrator; aviation veteran Vagn Sørensen; Donald Thompson of venture capital firm Cleveland Avenue and formerly with McDonald's Corp.; and Arne 'Alex' Wilhelmsen of Awilhelmsen.
