A Channel 9 News shot of paramedics preparing the passenger for a medical evacuation
A medical evacuation took place on Saturday when a female passenger aboard P&O Cruises Australia’s Pacific Jewel was winched by helicopter  and taken to Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital.

The woman is understood to have suffered a pelvis injury when she fell walking through a public area inside the ship.

‘Medical evacuations of this kind are relatively uncommon, but nor are they unusual to ensure passengers receive the best possible care,’ a P&O spokesman said.

Pacific Jewel is on a four-night cruise from Sydney to Moreton Island.  There has been no disruption to her schedule and she is expected to return to Sydney on Monday.
