The additions raise the level of investment in the yard to €75m.
They are the third large-scale additions this year, following a new gantry crane and a new cabin factory on the original Piikkio Works cabin factory grounds.
The latest investment gives an indication of how many old facilities at the Turku yard need to be replaced. These replacement investments can be seen as a burden but they're also a great chance to modernize production, according to Jan Meyer, ceo, Meyer Turku.
'Our investment team is working on creative and innovative solutions supported by modern IT technology. For us, the Meyer family, it is a concrete commitment to a long-term shipbuilding future in Turku,' Meyer added.
Production of the new steel storage and pre-treatment facility will start this autumn and will be ready in the spring.
Meyer Turku will initiate negotiations with the unions about the work. In any case, management said, this investment will not reduce head count at the yard; instead, the modernization is a measure to make jobs fit for the future.
