Meyer Werft cut steel for Royal Caribbean International's second 168,600gt Quantum Ultra ship. It was announced this 27th ship in Royal Caribbean's fleet will be called Odyssey of the Seas.

Odyssey will sail from the US

Set to debut in fall 2020, Odyssey of the Seas will sail from the United States. Additional details are to be revealed later this year.

Odyssey, with 4,180 lower berths, follows the Quantum Ultra ship Spectrum of the Seas, which is nearing completion at Meyer. Spectrum is scheduled for April delivery and will serve the Chinese market from Shanghai.

Michael Bayley and Richard Fain attend

Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, and Tim Meyer, managing director of Meyer Werft, pushed the button to start the computer-controlled cutting machine. Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. chairman and CEO Richard Fain also was on hand.

'It is our great pleasure to build these innovative ships for Royal Caribbean International and to continue our longstanding business relationship,' Meyer said.
