Nassau open for cruise ships, first expected Wednesday

The Bahamas were spared from the worst impact of Hurrricane Irma, according to an official Bahamas Tourism communiqué, and airports, hotels and attractions are returning to normal operation after a cosmetic clean-up.

The Port of Nassau reopened Sunday, however no cruise ships are expected until Wednesday. Information wasn't immediately available on other ports and private islands in the Bahamas.

Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau, in addition to all government airports throughout the Bahamas, are open and international flights are beginning to return. Freeport Airport was expected to open Tuesday.

Hotels and resorts including Atlantis, Paradise Island, Sandals Royal Bahamian, Warwick Paradise Island, Baha Mar, Melia Nassau Beach Resort and the Sandals Emerald Bay on Great Exuma are set to welcome guests, according to the communiqué.
