Sailors’ Society, one of the largest seafarer support charities operating internationally, unveiled its new Wellness at Sea app.

Available to download free of charge, the app is intended to put seafarers’ wellness in their own hands.

With interactive challenges on each of the five elements of wellness at sea—social, emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual—users receive daily feedback, enabling them to monitor their progress.

'Sailors’ Society’s Wellness at Sea coaching programme has been well received by the industry and we were keen to take it to the next level by putting the tools to enhance and monitor wellbeing in the hands of seafarers themselves,' said Sandra Welch, Sailors’ Society’s director of programme. 'The Wellness at Sea app is a fun and interactive way for seafarers to improve wellness whilst providing practical information including local maritime welfare services and ship tracking data.'

The app seeks to combat issues such as fatigue, poor mental health and stress, which affect seafarers on a daily basis and can be the difference between safe transit and a major incident.

The UK-based Sailors’ Society works to provide practical, emotional and spiritual welfare support to the world’s 1.5m seafarers, regardless of background or faith. Sailors’ Society chaplains and ship visitors have a presence in 69 global ports, with wider projects and services covering 26 countries.
