Huizen - a charming old port area and gateway to Utrecht and other destinations
The development of two berths to handle river cruise vessels up to 135 meters has begun at Huizen, an old fishing village in the North Holland province of the Netherlands not far from Amsterdam.

The berths are expected to be ready early next year.

According to Amsterdam Cruise Port's latest newsletter, the municipality of Huizen aims to become an additional destination for the many river cruises in the region. Huizen offers a charming old port area and can serve as a gateway for tours to Utrecht and other destinations.

The berth construction involves renovating existing jetties and docks, and adding shore power connections, water facilities, fences and bumpers.

Parking for motor coaches will be located right at the landing.

The Amsterdam Cruise Port newsletter said Huizen is working with the Swiss river cruise operator Scylla, which plans to include the destination in its itineraries.

'We welcome the enthusiasm of Huizen for becoming a new attractive and comfortable river cruise destination,' Amsterdam Cruise Port chair Janine van Oosten said. 'This lets us enrich our range of destinations and attractions and keep things fresh in our region and beyond.'

It also enables the growth of the river cruise industry to be spread more evenly in Amsterdam Cruise Port's home region, van Oosten added.

Amsterdam Cruise Port is a nonprofit association that promotes sea and river cruising in the region.
