New Zealand’s new Minister of Tourism and a new ATEED Head of Tourism

Kelvin Davis, a former Labour tourism spokesperson, is now Minister of Tourism
New Zealand’s deputy Labour leader Kelvin Davis has been appointed Minister of Tourism by Prime Minister elect Jacinda Ardern who is scheduled to be officially sworn in on Thursday.

Davis, a 50-year-old former teacher and school principal was born and raised in the Bay of Islands and lives in Kaitaia.

He entered parliament in 2008 and was appointed Labour deputy leader when Ardern took the party leadership in August.

Ardern won the New Zealand election on September 23 and will form a coalition government with NZ First.

Meanwhile, Auckland Tourism, Events & Economic Development (ATEED) has announced that Steffan Panoho has been appointed Head of Tourism.

Panoho has been manager trade partnerships (tourism) for the past six years and replaces Jason Hill who left the role on October 20 to pursue his own business interests within the sector.

And Lonely Planet has selected New Zealand as one of its top 10 countries in the world to visit in 2018.

New Zealand is ranked fifth on the list of Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2018, the 13th annual edition of the global travel guide’s best destinations, journeys and experiences for the year ahead. 

The latest guide describes New Zealand as ‘a wildly exciting place’ where ‘cafes and pop-up bars serve artisan coffee and craft beers on every urban corner.’
