Norwegian Cruise Line's first ship custom-built for the Chinese market was floated out of Meyer Werft's covered building dock II on Saturday.

Norwegian Joy's funnel was then put in place by a crane.

The ship is berthed at the Papenburg yard's harbor, where tests and trials will be carried out leading up to Norwegian Joy's conveyance along the Ems River in late March. After that, sea trials and final outfitting will take place, and the first of some 1,600 crew members are scheduled to arrive.

Norwegian Joy is due to be handed over on April 27 and will begin service from Shanghai in late June.

Next due for the cruise line from Meyer is Norwegian Bliss, to make its debut in Alaska in 2018, and its 2019 sister ship was recently designated for the Chinese market.
