Steve McLaughlin, vp sales Australasia for Oceania Cruises, co-hosted a Valentine’s dinner for media aboard Regatta with Steve Odell, svp and md Asia Pacific of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, before the 684-passenger ship set sail from Sydney late in the evening of February 14.

Regatta was heading for Newcastle and the east coast of Australia en route to Indonesia after her sold-out 2017/18 season Down Under -- her first visits to Australia and New Zealand since 2012.

She will return for an even bigger season which will run from November this year until March 2019 with a total of 66 days in local waters.

Her new itineraries will include ‘Enchanting Seas’ from Papeete to Sydney and ‘Southern Cross Seafarer,’ a Sydney to Sydney circumnavigation of Australia which will make the company’s first call at Hamilton Island.

At Wednesday night’s dinner in Regatta’s Toscana Italian restaurant, Odell, who opened the company’s regional headquarters in Sydney three years ago, announced that Australia is now No. 2 global market for Oceania Cruises after the United States.

‘It has been a big success story, with Australia the fastest growing region for the company,’ Odell said.

McLaughlin told guests that Oceania, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary, spends more money on food, per person, than any other cruise company.
