Oprah Winfrey will join a 'Girls Getaway' cruise to the Bahamas Jan. 30, 2019. Nieuw Statendam's naming will come at a later date, to be announced
Media mogul, producer, actress and philanthropist Oprah Winfrey will serve as the godmother of Holland America Line's Nieuw Statendam in 2019, at a date to be announced.

Winfrey has been closely associated with HAL in recent years thanks to a partnership between the cruise line and 'O, The Oprah Magazine.' She appeared on the first cruise as part of that partnership, in Alaska in 2017.

'Girls’ Getaway' cruise

Winfrey will sail again, this time aboard Nieuw Statendam, on a three-day 'Girls’ Getaway' cruise, embarking Jan. 30, 2019, joined by 'O, The Oprah Magazine' editor-at-large and best friend Gayle King and other members of the magazine’s editorial staff. They will host special presentations and events on board.

The official dedication of the ship—under construction at Fincantieri's Marghera yard—will take place in a private ceremony at a later date, to be annnounced.

Nieuw Statendam’s first voyage is Dec. 5, 2018, from Civitavecchia (Rome) to Fort Lauderdale.

'We are so excited to have Oprah set sail with us again for the "Girls’ Getaway" cruise in partnership with "O, The Oprah Magazine," and we’re deeply honored that Oprah will serve as godmother of Nieuw Statendam,' HAL president Orlando Ashford said.

Cruisers will get to attend a 'Conversation with Oprah'

The 'Girls’ Getaway' cruise sails round-trip from Port Everglades, and spends a day at Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas.

Passengers will have the opportunity to attend one of three live 'Conversations with Oprah.' Additionally, editorial staff from 'O, The Oprah Magazine' will host special events, including editor-in-chief Lucy Kaylin, creative director Adam Glassman, beauty director Brian Underwood and books editor Leigh Haber.

Style tips, book club and 'Just Breathe'

Glassman will give a style presentation revealing his tips, tricks and secrets for essential wardrobe pieces. Passengers will have the opportunity to read the latest on-board book club selection (to be announced) and then join Haber for a discussion with the author.

'Just Breathe,' involving movement and meditation, will be led by a guest instructor, to be announced. During the sea day, 'Just Breathe' will be held in the Lido Pool area, and the experience moves to the beach during the call at private island Half Moon Cay.
