During the 12-day drydock more than 1,000 contractors spent more than 200,000 hours fitting 25,000 sq mtrs of carpet and painting 10,000 sq mtrs of walls, before installing more than 3,000 items of new furniture and 1,200 pieces of artwork.
‘We’ve taken the winning features of our existing ships and added a whole new layer of excitement with some "wow" moments,’ president Sture Myrmell said.
These 'wow' features include a transparent waterslide to watch passengers shoot through its twists and turns and Luke’s, a poolside grill by signature chef Luke Mangan.
Myrmell said Pacific Explorer on Wednesday will make a one-night cruise to nowhere for nearly 1,200 guests including travel agents, local suppliers and the entire Carnival Australia staff as a ‘thank you’ for their efforts in the buildup to the ship’s arrival.
On Thursday Pacific Explorer, the fifth ship in P&O Cruises Australia’s fleet, will begin her programme of year-round cruising from Sydney.
