Paul Theroux, left, and Pico Iyer - among nine writers who will compose short stories about the voyage
Silversea's 2019 world cruise, a 132-day voyage from San Francisco to London dubbed 'The Tale of Tales,' opened for bookings. Silver Whisper will visit 52 ports in 31 countries, with 16 overnight calls and numerous late-night stays.

The journey includes innovative elements and will carry noted writers on its nine chapters (segments). Each is going to create a short story inspired by the regions visited that together will comprise an anthology of the voyage.

Already confirmed are Paul Theroux, travel writer, novelist and winner of the James Tait Black Prize for Fiction, and Pico Iyer, novelist, travel writer and essayist since 1986 for Time magazine, Harper's, The New York Times and The New York Review of Books.

Cruise highlights include an overnight stay at Tokyo with two full days to explore, a circumnavigation of Africa with an overnight at Cape Town, and a double overnight at Bordeaux to experience the region's famous wines. There is also a stopover in Saint-Malo, gateway to Mont Saint-Michel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

And passengers will have the chance to sail the Guadalquivir River from Seville and savor Bilbao's cultural scene with a visit to the Guggenheim Museum.

'World cruise 2019 has been crafted to tell a fascinating story about our planet,' according to Barbara Muckermann, Silversea's chief marketing officer. She said Silver Whisper will provide the perfect setting for travelers to 'create exciting new chapters in their own lives, shaped by new experiences and perspectives.'

Passengers who book the full voyage will get special amenities and events, including a bon voyage reception and overnight luxury hotel stay in San Francisco, business class air (from select gateways), transfers, complimentary baggage valet service and a $4,000 on-board spending credit per suite. Other perks include free, unlimited Wi-Fi, laundry and dry cleaning and special commemorative gifts.

Exclusive events are planned at Papeete, Tahiti, around its only fully restored marae (temple), at South Africa's Robben Island and at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.
