Ponant's Le Boréal loaded onto heavy lift vessel bound for Europe repairs

Ponant's Le Boréal loaded onto heavy lift vessel bound for Europe repairs
Dutch Offshore Contractors reported the successful loading of Le Boréal onto heavy lift vessel Kang Sheng Kou in Punta Arenas, Chile, for COSCO Heavy Transport. The Ponant ship is to be transported to Europe for repairs.

No further details were given.

An engine room fire in November left Le Boréal without power near Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands.

Royal Air Force search and rescue teams stationed at the Falklands had helped evacuate the passengers. No injuries were reported, but the ship had been in danger of grounding, according to the British Ministry of Defence. Le Boréal subsequently was assisted alongside to Port Stanley by two Dutch tugs.

The ship had been on an Antarctica cruise.

Last word from Ponant, back in November, was that repairs likely would be carried out in a nearby port such as Punta Arenas, Valparaíso or Montevideo.

That was four weeks ago.
