Nieuw Statendam is scheduled to be named at Port Everglades on Feb. 2
Holland America Line's Nieuw Statendam arrived early this morning at Port Everglades on its maiden US visit. The newest Holland America Line ship sailed in from a trans-Atlantic voyage begun in Civitavecchia (Rome) Dec. 5.

10 HAL ships at the port this season

Nieuw Statendam is scheduled to depart today, returning on Dec. 23.

'Holland America Line has been a primary customer for Port Everglades since the mid-1930s. This winter season, we will welcome 10 Holland America cruise ships, and have the distinct honor of being the host port for the Nieuw Statendam’s official naming,' Port Everglades CEO and port director Steven Cernak said.

Feb. 2 naming by Oprah Winfrey

Nieuw Statendam will be named on Feb. 2 by godmother Oprah Winfrey.

The 99,902gt ship, second in HAL's Pinnacle class following 2016's Koningsdam, accommodates 2,666 passengers.

Holland America accounted for more than 11.5% of the total number of cruise passengers who traveled through Port Everglades in fiscal 2018 (October 2017 through September 2018).
