Iceland's Port of Akureyri - voted Lonely Planets’ Number One best place in Europe 2015 - reports that work to extend the berth at Oddeyrarbryggja is complete and as a result it now measures 240mtr.

This development, in connection with the port’s wide harbour entrance and facilities, means that vessels up to 350mtr can now be accommodated alongside.

New 200-ton storm bollards were also part of the infrastructure upgrade and following the successful dredging project at Oddeyrarbryggja, the new alongside water depth ranges between 9.5 to 11mtr.

News on the shorex front is that two new whale watching companies have recently set up business within walking distance of the main cruise berth in Akureyri  providing more shore excursion capacity without the need for additional guides and motor coaches, says Pétur Ólafsson, director Port of Akureyri who will be participating at Seatrade Cruise Med next month in Tenerife on the Cruise Iceland booth  #510.

Complimentary WiFi is now available at all berths at the Port of Akureyri and both passengers and crew are welcome to use the indoor/outdoor facilities at the WiFi
Centers, he adds.

The port communicated its latest news to cruise line executives and media via an e-newsletter which is designed to enable the recipient to turn the printed sheet into a neat origami boat (instructions are provided).
