Located on the holiday-island Bornholm, often called the Baltic Pearl, Port of Roenne is preparing the local community for the anticipated increase in visitors.
‘When Port of Roenne announced the go ahead for the first phase of four in the harbour's development plan, we put some turbo on the strategic work needed at the Cruise Bornholm Network, commented Pernille Kofod Lydolph, ceo for Destination Bornholm, which operates and facilitates the development of the network.
‘This means that we are already in dialogue with the local cultural institutions and companies - regarding infrastructure and the quality upgrading of guides,’ she said.
Cruise calls have been rising in Roenne, up from 18 in 2015, to 20 the year after, 26 in 2017 and a record 47 this year. Passengers should reach almost 23,000 in 2018, an 80% increase over last year.
‘Whilst the cruise lines already know us, the fact that in June 2019 we are able to receive big vessels has certainly been an eye opener for many. Now we have what it takes to provide customers with a good experience on all parameters,’ said Thomas Bendtsen, ceo Port of Roenne.
