Eight cruise ships and one ferry are set to turn around at the 'Cruise Capital of the World' on Sunday
PortMiami projects an estimated 52,000 passenger movements on Sunday, setting a one-day record for the 'Cruise Capital of the World.'

Eight cruise ships and a ferry

Eight cruise ships and one ferry are expected. The cruise ships are Carnival Horizon, Carnival Magic, Disney Magic, MSC Divina, Norwegian Getaway, Oceania Cruises' Riviera and Royal Caribbean's Empress of the Seas and Allure of the Seas. The ferry is FRS Caribbean's San Gwann, which makes day trips to Bimini.

'It's definitely a busy time for PortMiami,' Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez said, adding his welcome to cruise visitors and encouraging them to explore everything the community has to offer.

Millions of dollars in economic impact annually

'Cruise passengers are essential to the continued growth and development of the tourism industry in Miami-Dade and contribute millions of dollars to our local economy annually,' Gimenez said. 'That includes air travel, hotel nights, entertainment and shopping.'

'PortMiami is home to the world's most renowned cruise lines,' added Rebeca Sosa, chairwoman of the county's Economic Development and Tourism Committee. She noted this past year the port handled 5.6m passenger moves and said: 'We’re more than ready for the 2018-2019 cruise season.'
