The decision was made in conjunction with the local port authority after a comprehensive set of testing and simulator trials were carried out. At present the procedure is also dependent on certain weather conditions.
At the end of Regal Princess’ Baltic season a decision will be taken as to whether more sailings to Stockholm on Royal-class ships can be scheduled.
Princess’ other classes of ship already make the more direct journey to Stockholm.
Captain Ed Perrin was at the helm for both arrivals. He said: 'Having previously taken one of our smaller ships in to Stockholm, I’m equally as confident our larger ships could make the port a more permanent fixture. While Nynashamn will always be an attractive destination, the majority of our guests travel onwards to Stockholm, meaning this would ultimately prove more convenient for them. We now await the full results of the trial with interest.'
