An 'astoundingly rare' 1840 port will be part of the collection
Aboard Cunard’s remastered Queen Mary 2, passengers will be able to indulge in a collection of 450 fine wines, including the highly sought after California Screaming Eagle at $4,500 per bottle, which also will be served by the glass for the first time. A special collection of vintage ports and The Cunard Wine Academy are other new offerings.

Cunard sommeliers and the line's suppliers have 'searched the world for exciting new additions to Cunard's famous wine list,' said Anthony Habert, head of fine wines.

To enable the serving of exceptional wines by the glass without compromising their quality, Cunard is introducing the new Coravin wine pouring system that uses a needle to extract the desired quantity of wine from a bottle without removing the cork.

By the glass, Screaming Eagle will be available at $495 for 75 ml, or $945 for 150 ml.

A few examples of other exclusive wines also available by the glass (and bottle) are Château Lafite-Rothschild, 1er Cru Classé ($950, or $105 per 75 ml glass, $199.50 per 150 ml), Château Mouton-Rothschild, 1er Cru Classé ($775, or $85 per 75 ml glass, $162.75 per 150 ml) and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti 'Le Montrachet' ($4,250, or $470 per 75 ml glass, $890 per 150 ml).

An unusual collection of vintage port wines has been assembled to join the enhanced wine cellar. The 46 vintage ports, each produced in a key year of Cunard's 176-year history, will form part of a specially commissioned permanent display in the new Carinthia Lounge. Among the selection, Habert said, is an 'astoundingly rare' 1840 port.

This collection is being created as part of the ship's major 25-day refit this month.

Also, passengers can take part in The Cunard Wine Academy, involving food and wine pairings, tastings and producer master classes. Graduates will receive the Wines and Spirits Education Trust Levels 1 & 2 examinations on board.
