Royal Caribbean International will be returning Quantum of the Seas to Singapore for a six-month homeporting season from 2019 to 2020. It will be the longest Singapore deployment for a Quantum-class ship.

Quantum currently operates from Shanghai year-round. When Quantum Ultra newbuild Spectrum of the Seas enters service in 2019, Quantum will move to Tianjin for seasonal operations.

In Singapore, over 34 sailings from November 2019 to April 2020, the ship is expected to carry some 150,000 passengers. With this deployment, Royal Caribbean will increase its Singapore capacity by 30%.

Itineraries include four-night cruises to Penang or Phuket, five-night cruises to Kuala Lumpur (Port Klang), Penang and Phuket, a seven-night cruise to Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Phuket (with an overnight) and a seven-night cruise to Bangkok (Laem Chabang, overnight) and Ho Chi Minh City.

Multimillion-dollar refurbishment

Quantum of the Seas will undergo a revitalization prior to its Singapore return. The multimillion-dollar project will refresh and upgrade the ship.

'The Asian cruise market has seen tremendous growth over the last few years, and Singapore has been leading growth as one of the most significant cruise destinations and cruise source markets in the region,' said Michael Bayley, Royal Caribbean president and CEO.

In January, Royal Caribbean International reached a new milestone, welcoming its millionth guest sailing from Singapore—a momentous start to the line's 11th year of operation in Asia.

Longer cruises

'In response to the strong demand from Singapore and the region, we have decided to bring in longer cruises for Quantum of the Seas’ return,' Bayley added. This means the first seven-night round-trip cruises on a Quantum-class ship from Singapore.

Singapore Tourism Board's Yap Chin Siang, assistant chief executive, policy and planning group, welcomed the news.

'Quantum’s upcoming deployment is a strong endorsement from Royal Caribbean International, our trusted industry partner, of Singapore’s status as Southeast Asia’s homeport of choice,' he said. Quantum will be a 'key addition to Singapore’s vibrant and diverse lineup of cruise offerings, catering to the strong demand for cruising from Singapore.'

The 2019-2020 Singapore cruises will open for sale Tuesday with a ‘Second Guest at $1’ special promotion for three days, April 10-12.
