Cunard Commodore Christopher Rynd conducted the ceremony on Queen Victoria's top deck just days before Philpott takes up his new role as master on Cunard's flagship.
Earlier this year Philpott became the first captain to sail the largest cruise ship up the Amazon when Queen Victoria travelled to Manaus, Brazil, as part of the ship's annual world voyage.
