Norwegian Getaway - berthed at Rio's Pier Mauá offers the best views in town from its top decks, Joyce Landry writes
For a fascinating insider's view of the Olympic Games from aboard the floating hotel Norwegian Getaway, check out Joyce Landry's reports on the Landry & Kling blog. Landry is the ceo of Landry & Kling Events at Sea, the Miami-based company that brokered the charter of the Norwegian Cruise Line ship on behalf of the RIO 2016 Organizing Committee.

Norwegian Getaway is berthed at Rio's Pier Mauá until Aug. 22 to provide supplemental housing for corporate sponsors, members of the International Olympic Federation, the national organizing committee, the Rio Host Committee and their guests.

'The best view in town has been from the top decks of the Getaway—no one else has this view!' Landry writes. 'Locals who have visited the ship are going crazy taking photos of their “new city" including Rio’s new visual showcase, the Museum of Tomorrow,' she adds.

Landry is sharing tidbits from on board, for example, how the Norwegian Getaway crew are going above and beyond to cater to their guests.

In one instance, they helped pull off a 'fabulous Opening Ceremony party' for the families of the NBA players, who are on Team USA, she writes. (The US basketball players themselves, men and women, are housed nearby on Silversea Cruises' Silver Cloud in a charter brokered by another South Florida company, Worldwide Cruise Associates.)

Landry recounted how the families of the NBA players wanted a place to watch their 'star sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, walk with the US team. Several of the crew went out of their way to make it happen,' she said, 'and the NBA asked Landry & Kling to distribute tickets to the US-China game to them.

On another occasion, Landry & Kling, who are arranging the business meetings and hospitality on board in coordination with Norwegian Cruise Line, were asked to get a cake for NBA player Demar Derozan, who brought friends aboard to celebrate his birthday in Norwegian Getaway's Teppanyaki Restaurant.

'With very little advance notice, pastry chef Alen made a fantastic creation worthy of any winners of Food Network’s “Cake Wars,"' Landry writes.
