Italy lawyers strike could delay Concordia trial: Reuters

Italy lawyers strike could delay Concordia trial: Reuters
A strike by Italian lawyers next week is expected to affect trials set for July 8-16, including that of Costa Concordia Capt. Francesco Schettino, Reuters reports from Rome.

Schettino faces charges including manslaughter in connection with the grounding of the ship in January 2012. Thirty-two people died.

The strike was called following a government decree intended to speed up civil trials, which now last an average of about four years, according to Reuters, which said Italy's major lawyers' association objects to the new requirement for a round of mediation.
