The survey of 1,000 local respondents showed that 66% do not know that accommodation and food are included in the total price of a cruise package, while 61% think they have to pay additional fees to take part in activities like rock climbing and mini-golf.
Royal Caribbean’s md Singapore and Southeast Asia, Sean Treacy, said this shows there is still a lot to do to educate local travellers about the value they can get from a cruise holiday, and that is why the line is launching a ‘Sea vs Land’ challenge for Singaporeans.
The challenge will see Singapore’s savviest value-hunters compete to complete as many cruise activities on land for the same price as a cruise package.
'Many local travellers are unaware of what is included in a cruise package. For example, the survey showed that around six out of 10 Singaporeans think that enjoying a Broadway Show on board, or ordering room service, incur an extra fee – when it’s actually all-inclusive,' said Treacy.
To enter and qualify as a finalist of the ‘Sea vs Land’ challenge, competitors must upload a 15-second video of themselves and/or a teammate showing their value-hunting skills. The most impressive and engaging entries will join the challenge showdown on September 17 where they stand a chance to win a cruise holiday for two to Hong Kong on board Voyager of the Seas.
