Ryndam shortens cruise by a day for extra sanitation
Holland America Line's Ryndam will return to Harwich a day early for additional sanitation to stem a suspected norovirus outbreak. The ship will be getting a deep cleaning in port on Friday, and the July 4 'Voyage of the Midnight Sun' cruise is expected to depart on schedule.

HAL said during the 14-day 'Northern Isle' cruise that sailed from Harwich June 20, 'a high number of guests reported to the infirmary' with symptoms consistent with norovirus.

The virus is currently circulating widely ashore.

Two weeks ago, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines canceled Balmoral's three-day mini-cruise from Southampton after an outbreak on the prior sailing.

HAL said at the first sign of an increase in cases on Ryndam it had initiated enhanced sanitation protocols to interrupt the spread of the virus and was in communication with Public Health England.

Passengers with scheduled flights post-cruise will be provided local hotels on Friday night.
