Sanya on Hainan island looking to purchase two cruise ships
China’s Sanya city on Hainan Island is planning to acquire and own two cruise ships to start operations within this year, local reports said.

The targeted cruise ships are a 30,000gt and a 50,000gt vessel, for deployments on the Sanya-Xisha route and Sanya-Southeast Asia/Hong Kong route, respectively.

In late August, Sanya city government entered into a cooperation agreement with state-owned China Communications Construction (CCC) and CTS (HK) Group Corp to jointly develop the local cruise industry, and potentially joint ownership of the two cruise ships.

Meanwhile, Sanya is already planning to further develop its Phoenix Island International Cruise Terminal by adding new and bigger berths to meet the growing cruise market.
