Scanship reports order for a system on a Silversea newbuild

For months Silversea has been cagey about reports that it's building a new ship. On Friday, a company source told Seatrade Insider: 'We have not announced any newbuild.'

Fincantieri has not publicly disclosed a Silversea order.

If a new ship were, in fact, coming in 2016, that would be a remarkably short construction time from now.

Scanship reported the business in a notice to the Oslo Axess stock exchange. The company said its main delivery of equipment for advanced wastewater purification, vacuum food waste processing and garbage handling with incineration for the Silversea ship will take place during the third quarter this year.

'We are very pleased to be selected as a partner by Fincantieri for this prestigious project, increasing our market share within total clean ship systems,' Scanship ceo Henrik Badin said in a statement. 'This confirms that our technology is requested by vessels that need to be in compliance with the highest environmental standards worldwide.'

Other recent Scanship orders have included AWP and waste management systems for four Viking Cruises ocean-going newbuilds at Fincantieri and AWP and biomass processing equipment for Oasis 4 at STX France.
