Scanship to equip pair of luxury polar-class ships

Scanship said it entered into a contract with a Norwegian shipyard to supply its Total Clean Ship System including advanced wastewater purification, food waste processing and garbage handling.

These systems will be installed aboard two luxury polar expedition cruise vessels under construction for a European shipowner.

Scanship did not identify the yard or the owner, but it's a good bet the business is for Hapag-Lloyd Cruises' pair of 16,100gt, 240-passenger ships. The hulls will be built at Vard's Tulcea, Romania, yard, with outfitting completed at Vard Langsten in Norway.

Vard is also building four polar expedition vessels for Ponant.

Scanship already announced getting the business for Hurtigruten's newbuilds at Kleven Werft.
