Sustreanu will oversee all aspects of guest services, from how travelers are met at the airports to how they are made to feel at home on the ships to finding more ways to exceed their expectations. Based in the Zug, Switzerland, office, she is expected to travel regularly on the vessels.
Sustreanu has been working in river cruising since 1996 and before that as a hotelier, including a stint as the first female gm of a resort in the Maldives. She oversaw the development of Grand Circle’s Switzerland operation with its more than 25 ships. After a year of managing a 20-ship inland shipping operation, she missed the river cruise environment and joined Uniworld as a managing director in 2004, when the line was acquired by TTC.
'Christine’s experience at Grand Circle and Uniworld during their development stages makes her a perfect candidate in our never-ending focus on raising the service standard in the river cruise industry,' said Glen Moroney, chairman of Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours. 'Our focus on the guests and her focus on the details has already resulted in some very positive adjustments to the guest experience.'
'Owners Glen and Karen Moroney are pioneers in many ways and have built a company of incredibly talented and caring staff and these wonderful state-of-the-art river ships,' Sustreanu said. She added that a relentless passion for improvement 'makes the difference between a guest having a good experience and having an amazing experience.'
Scenic operates river cruises in Europe, Russia and Southeast Asia.
