Seabourn partners with Dr. Andrew Weil on holistic wellness program

Seabourn plans a holistic spa and wellness experience with Dr. Andrew Weil, in partnership with The Onboard Spa by Steiner.

It will be led by the newly established position, The Wellness Guide, a certified yoga and meditation practitioner who will inspire and educate passengers through various complimentary classes and gatherings.

Seabourn president Rick Meadows said the new program is one of a kind at sea.

'By partnering with Dr. Weil, a pioneer in integrative medicine, we will deliver an even greater degree of mind and body programs that ensure you can break away, relax and rejuvenate while you travel with us,' Meadows said.

The program will debut with Weil sailing on Seabourn Encore's inaugural cruise in January and roll out across the fleet in 2017, adding Seabourn Ovation in spring 2018.

Weil will sail on a different Seabourn ship each year to deliver a 60-minute lecture and offer smaller informal group discussions. A separate team of wellness experts will make regular visits to spa facilities throughout the fleet.

Central to the program is daily meditation and yoga in free sessions. 'Mindful Meditation' will introduce positive affirmations and mantras to reflect on throughout the day. Yoga classes will continue the focus on the mantra and positive affirmations. Passengers can choose from varied yoga classes dealing with such issues as back and joint pain, headaches and body alignment, as well as yoga to enhance creativity, mental focus and happiness. The classes will change daily with a new theme.

Complimentary 'Mind and Body' seminars are created by Weil and Steiner's wellness professionals. Many will be based on Weil's teachings. Examples are 'Spontaneous Happiness & Spontaneous Healing,' adapted from Weil's best-selling books; 'Anti-inflammatory Foods,' adapted from Weil's nutritional guidance; 'Healthy Aging,' adapted from his research; and 'Introduction to Mindful Meditation,' about what happens to the body and mind during meditation.

Individualized one-on-one wellness sessions on select topics will also be available for a fee.
