Ted Blamey, a regular Seatrade speaker and panelist who was made a Visiting Fellow of the Seatrade Academy in 2011, was elevated to CLIA Australasia’s Hall of Fame at the annual black-tie dinner at the Star Event Centre Sydney on Saturday.

Blamey, a Harvard graduate whose career has spanned more than 30 years, is a former md of Sitmar Cruises Australasia and was Sitmar’s global president and ceo.

He was instrumental in the founding of luxury cruise pioneer Silversea Cruises.

In 1997 he founded CHART Management Consultants where he has become an expert on China’s cruise industry and has undertaken major strategy work for Papua New Guinea and the Philippines.

‘This year’s Hall of Fame award recognises another individual who has been instrumental in defining the cruise industry in this region with a wide variety of innovations in product, destinations and distribution that underpin our local cruise industry today,’ CLIA Australasia chairman Steve Odell said.

‘On a more personal level, we recognize this gentleman as very humble and gracious, whose passion for the industry is legendary,’ Odell said.
