Sembcorp Marine completes ten cruise ship projects in 2018

Costa Fortuna sailed away from Sembcorp Marine Admiralty Yard Sunday, marking the group’s final cruise ship project delivery in 2018.

Looking ahead, so far 13 cruise ships are lined up for next year.

Norwegian Cruise Line a new customer

Vessels from several Carnival Corp brands, Royal Caribbean and one from new customer Norwegian Cruise Line were part of the 2018 roster.

In 2019, Sembcorp Marine’s cruise ship repair and upgrade business, has 13 jobs lined up from Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Star Cruises and Star Clippers, amongst others. The group will also manage the turnkey upgrade of Pacific Jewel destined for Indian start-up, Zen Cruises.

All these projects will take place at Sembcorp Marine’s Tuas Boulevard and Admiralty yards in Singapore, both equipped with large and deep-drafted dry docks.

Capitalising on Asia's strong growth

‘Given the continued strong growth of cruise tourism, especially in Asia, Sembcorp Marine is well positioned to capitalise on the boom with our proven capabilities and facilities,’ Gan said.

Sembcorp Marine has delivered a total of 102 cruise ship refit and upgrade projects over the past decade, averaging about ten vessels a year.

Sembcorp Marine completed 16 cruise ship repairs and upgrades in 2017 and nine in 2016.
